How HAPT Works

Built to run on your device. No account, no cloud, no dependency.

Offline First

Everything HAPT does — adding items, tracking expiry, calculating supplies, generating QR labels — works with no internet connection. Your data lives in a local database on your Android device.

Android App

Native Android app. All data stored locally on your device. No registration, no account, no cloud sync required.

Local Storage

Items, photos, locations and settings are stored on your device only. Nothing leaves your phone unless you explicitly export a backup.

Backup & Restore

Export your full database as a ZIP archive anytime. Restore on the same device or transfer to a new one. You own your data.

Optional Connected Features

A small set of features use the internet when available. All are optional — the app works fully without them.

Barcode Lookup

Scan a food barcode to pull product info automatically. The barcode number is sent to the HAPT API, which queries a self-hosted mirror of the OpenFoodFacts open food database. No personal data or inventory data is transmitted — only the barcode number.

License Verification

On every cold start, HAPT verifies the app was legitimately purchased using the Google Play Integrity API. The device generates a signed token on-device; HAPT's server decrypts it with Google's API and checks whether the app came from the Play Store. No inventory data is transmitted.

Anonymous Usage Statistics

On every cold start, HAPT sends a silent background ping to the HAPT server. It reports a device pseudonym (a hash — never a raw identifier) and aggregate inventory counts by category (e.g. "30 food items, 5 water items"). No item names, photos, locations, or personal data are included. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

QR Labels & Deep Links

HAPT generates printable QR labels for your containers and storage locations. Scanning a label opens the app directly to that item or location.

Container Labels

Generate QR labels for water tanks and storage containers. Print at various sizes, including high-DPI output for label printers.

Location Labels

Label your storage locations — shelves, boxes, rooms. Scan with any QR reader and the app navigates directly to that location's inventory.

Direct Navigation

Each QR code links directly into the app. No browser, no login, no intermediate steps — scan and you're there.

Privacy by Design

The architecture is intentionally minimal. Less surface area means less risk.

No Account Required

Nothing to register, nothing to breach. Your inventory is not tied to any online identity.

Minimal Anonymous Statistics

No advertising SDKs, no crash reporters, no behavioural tracking. A silent background ping sends only aggregate item counts and a hashed device identifier — never item names, photos, or personal data.

Inventory Stays Local

Your items, photos and locations never leave your device automatically. Backup export is always your explicit action. The anonymous ping contains only aggregate counts — never item names, photos, or locations.

Open Food Data

Barcode lookup uses a self-hosted mirror of OpenFoodFacts, a non-profit open database. Only the barcode number is transmitted to the HAPT server — no personal data, no inventory content.
