Application License

Proprietary Software

HAPT (Happy Apocalypse Preparation Tool) is proprietary software developed and owned by BrainyUniverse. The source code is closed and is not distributed, published, or made available under any open-source license.

Free Trial

When you install HAPT from Google Play, you receive a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. No payment is required to start the trial. The trial period is counted server-side from the date of first launch — device clock changes have no effect.

When the trial expires, the App will prompt you to purchase lifetime access. Your stored data is never deleted and remains fully accessible on your device at all times, regardless of trial or license status. You can export a backup at any time via Settings → Export Backup.

Lifetime Access

After the trial, you may purchase lifetime access for a one-time fee through Google Play. Upon completing the purchase, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to:

  • Install and use the App on Android devices associated with your Google account
  • Use all features described in the App listing for personal or household preparedness purposes
  • Create and retain backup exports of your own data

What You May Not Do

  • Copy, redistribute, resell, or sublicense the App or any part of it
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code from the App
  • Modify or create derivative works based on the App
  • Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notice
  • Use the App for commercial resale or as part of a paid service offering to third parties

Ownership

All intellectual property rights in the App — including but not limited to the source code, UI design, icons, and documentation — remain the exclusive property of BrainyUniverse. Your purchase or subscription grants you a license to use the App, not ownership of it.

Google Play Licensing

HAPT uses the Google Play Integrity API to verify that the App was purchased and installed through Google Play before granting access. This is a cryptographic attestation service — it does not involve your Google account credentials or payment details.

How License Verification Works

When you launch HAPT, the App performs a license check as part of the startup sequence. The check runs in the background and does not delay the App from loading. The flow is:

  • HAPT asks the Google Play app on your device to generate an integrity token — a short-lived cryptographic proof signed by Google that includes information about the App's installation source
  • The token is sent to the HAPT server, which forwards it to Google's Play Integrity API for decryption and verification
  • Google returns a verdict: PLAY_RECOGNIZED (installed from Play Store), UNRECOGNIZED_VERSION (Play Store install but version not yet indexed), or UNAPPROVED (sideloaded or tampered APK)
  • Only an explicit UNAPPROVED verdict blocks access. Any network error, service unavailability, or uncertain result grants access — the system fails open to avoid blocking legitimate users

The integrity token contains only information about the App's installation source and your device's integrity state. It does not contain your inventory data, photos, location information, or any content stored in HAPT. Verification is done solely to confirm a legitimate Play Store purchase.

What Is Stored

The HAPT server logs the verification verdict (PLAY_RECOGNIZED, UNAPPROVED, etc.) alongside an anonymised device network address for security monitoring. No personal information, Google account data, or App content is stored as part of this check.

Offline Grace Period

HAPT caches a successful license verification on your device for 30 days. If your device is offline or Google's services are temporarily unavailable, the cached result is used and you can continue using the App normally. The cache extends up to 90 days in offline conditions. License checks are retried automatically on the next App launch with connectivity.

License Revocation

Access may be restricted in the following cases: the 7-day free trial has expired and no purchase has been made; a purchase is refunded or charged back; or Google Play returns an explicit unlicensed verdict. In any of these cases, HAPT will restrict access on the next successful license check. Your stored data remains on your device and is not deleted — you can export a backup at any time via Settings → Export Backup.

Intellectual Property in Dependencies

HAPT makes use of the following third-party components, which are subject to their own licenses:

  • Flutter / Dart SDK — BSD 3-Clause License (Google)
  • OpenFoodFacts API — Open Database License (ODbL)
  • Google Play Integrity API — Google APIs Terms of Service
  • Google ML Kit (barcode scanning) — Google APIs Terms of Service
  • Other Flutter packages as listed in the App's pubspec.yaml

BrainyUniverse does not claim ownership over these components. Their respective licenses apply to their respective code.

Disclaimer of Warranties

HAPT is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. BrainyUniverse does not warrant that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose. Emergency preparedness decisions should not rely solely on any software tool.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, BrainyUniverse shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use HAPT, including but not limited to data loss, device damage, or reliance on information provided by the App.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the jurisdiction in which BrainyUniverse is established. Disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
